Privacy Policy

How Prog Rock Atlas collects, uses and protects your information.

Last updated: 20 June 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains how Prog Rock Atlas ("we", "us", "the site"), available at prog-atlas.com, handles information when you visit. We are an independent, non-commercial enthusiast website, and we aim to collect as little personal data as possible.

Who we are

Prog Rock Atlas is an independent website about progressive rock. For any privacy question you can contact us at info@prog-atlas.com. For the purposes of data protection law, we act as the data controller for the limited personal data described below.

Information we collect

We collect two kinds of information:

  • Information you give us. If you contact us or sign up to hear about new content, we receive what you choose to send — typically your email address and any message you write.
  • Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and analytics tools record basic technical data when you visit: your IP address, browser type and device, the pages you view, the site you came from, and the date and time. This is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to measure traffic. This includes analytics such as Google Analytics, which helps us see which pages are popular. Affiliate partners (see below) may also set cookies. You can control or disable cookies in your browser settings. For details, see our Cookie Policy.

How we use your information

We use the information above only to: operate, maintain and improve the site; understand how visitors use our pages so we can make them better; respond to messages you send us; and, if you have opted in, let you know about new content or books. We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal effects about you.

Legal bases for processing

Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on: your consent (for example, for non-essential cookies or to receive updates), which you can withdraw at any time; and our legitimate interests in running and securing a small website and understanding its audience, balanced against your rights.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed, including: our website hosting provider; analytics providers (such as Google Analytics); an email or form provider used for any sign-up or contact form; and affiliate networks such as the Amazon Associates programme, whose links may set cookies when you click them. These providers process data under their own privacy terms.

International data transfers

Some of our providers (for example, analytics and affiliate partners) are based outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is done under appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.

Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Aggregated analytics data is retained according to our analytics provider’s settings; any email you give us is kept until you ask us to remove it or unsubscribe.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email us at info@prog-atlas.com. If you are in the EU/EEA you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali). If you are a California resident, you may request to know or delete the personal information we hold and are entitled not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights; note that we do not sell personal information.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we handle. No website can guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
