How Prog Atlas collects, uses and protects your information.

This Privacy Policy explains how Prog Atlas (“I”, “me”, “the site”), available at prog-atlas.com, handles information when you visit. The site aims to collect as little personal data as possible.

Who runs this site

Prog Atlas is a website about progressive rock, written and run by Marcus Stone, author of the Beyond the Sound book series. The site earns money from the sale of those books and from affiliate links, as explained in the Affiliate Disclosure. For any privacy question you can write to info@prog-atlas.com. For the purposes of data protection law, I act as the data controller for the limited personal data described below.

Information I collect

Two kinds of information:

Information you give me. If you get in touch or sign up to hear about new content, I receive what you choose to send: typically your email address and any message you write.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the site’s servers and analytics tools record basic technical data when you visit: your IP address, browser type and device, the pages you view, the site you came from, and the date and time. This is used in aggregate to understand how the site is used.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly and to measure traffic. This includes analytics such as Google Analytics, which shows which pages are popular. Affiliate partners (see below) may also set cookies. You can control or disable cookies in your browser settings. For details, see the Cookie Policy.

How I use your information

I use the information above only to: operate, maintain and improve the site; understand how visitors use its pages so I can make them better; reply to messages you send; and, if you have opted in, let you know about new content or books. No automated decision-making that produces legal effects about you is used.

Legal bases for processing

Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, the legal bases are: your consent (for example, for non-essential cookies or to receive updates), which you can withdraw at any time; and my legitimate interests in running and securing a small website and understanding its audience, balanced against your rights.

How your information is shared

I do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with service providers that help run the site, and only as needed, including: the website hosting provider; analytics providers (such as Google Analytics); an email or form provider used for any sign-up or contact form; and affiliate networks such as the Amazon Associates Program, whose links may set cookies when you click them. These providers process data under their own privacy terms.

International data transfers

Some providers (for example, analytics and affiliate partners) are based outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is done under appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.

Data retention

Personal data is kept only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Aggregated analytics data is retained according to the analytics provider’s settings; any email you give me is kept until you ask me to remove it or you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data held about you, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email info@prog-atlas.com. If you are in the EU/EEA you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali). If you are a California resident, you may request to know or delete the personal information held about you and are entitled not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights; note that the site does not sell personal information.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please get in touch and it will be deleted.

Security

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are taken to protect the limited data the site handles. No website can guarantee absolute security, but your information is kept as safe as reasonably possible.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. When it is, the “last updated” date above will change. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
